Igor Petrov, the company's director, gave an expert commentary for the specialized publication Prometall regarding the development of the Pavlovskoye lead-zinc ore deposit:
"I've repeatedly spoken about the unfortunate choice of a site for implementing massive investments. The issue isn't even the deposits themselves, but the large number of natural components in the deposits (lead and zinc), and the market prospects are very modest," said Igor Petrov, Prometall's general director and director of the InfoMine Research Group. "Zinc, unlike copper and nickel, is not a high-tech metal and is unlikely to take off anytime soon. Lead is generally considered a depressed non-ferrous metal, with an uncertain future."
The plan is to produce zinc and lead concentrates, which were successfully imported and processed in China. This means we'll be importing even more from our neighbor. Russia already exports approximately $500,000 tons of copper concentrate and 400,000 tons of zinc and lead concentrates per year. I don't control economic regulation, but perhaps it's time to give the green light to raw material projects whose processing in Russia isn't planned.
I won't dwell on the technological aspects of field development; I'll simply note that floating flotation plants specifically have never been built in the country, and this will be a very serious problem, especially in the latitudes where the field is located."
