This report is the third edition of the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI/HBI) Market Survey.
The aim of the study is to analyze the DRI / HBI market in the world, covering the period from 2007 to 2020.
A feature of this report is the analysis of DRI production in Russia, as well as providing information on the main processes for DRI obtaining.
The object of research is direct reduced iron.
This work is a desk study. The sources of information were data from the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation (Rosstat), statistics of railway transportation of the Russian Federation, the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation; UN databases, InfoMine databases, Midrex data. Also involved were data from the industry and regional press, annual and quarterly reports of securities issuers, Internet sites of companies producing and consuming DRI.
Chronological framework of the study: 2007-2020, forecast up to 2030.
Geography of research: the world as a whole, Russia, India, Mexico.
Research volume: the report consists of 10 parts, contains 125 pages, including 31 tables, 29 figures and 2 appendices.
The first chapter of the study is devoted to the analysis of the current state of the production of DRI, highlighting the main processes of its release, the form of the product. The chapter also briefly presents the main directions of development of the DRI production technology.
In the second chapter of the study, the characteristics of the main processes for the production of DRI are presented, in particular, Midrex (Midrex®, MXCOL®, HOTLINK®) and HYL / Energiron (HYL ZR). In addition, the characteristics of the technology for the production of reduced iron by liquid-phase reduction and "hybrid" processes (ITmk3, COREX, HIsmelt) are given. The requirements for the quality of DRI of some manufacturers are presented.
The third chapter of the study is devoted to the analysis of DRI production in the world by main technological processes and countries in 2007-2020. The main regions and countries for the production of DRI are highlighted, as well as large manufacturing companies.
The fourth chapter of the study lists a number of new projects for the production of DRI, provides data on the economics of projects, including investments, the level of operating costs, etc.
In the fifth chapter of the study, the issue of costs for the production of DRIs in the world, as well as in individual countries, is worked out. A global cost curve for DRI production in 2007-2019 has been built.
The sixth chapter of the study analyzes the foreign trade of DRI in the world in the period 2007-2020. The role of Russia in the world trade in metallized raw materials is revealed.
The seventh chapter of the study analyzes the prices for DRI / HBI in the world in 2007-2020, and presents a forecast of the price level for HBI for the period up to 2030.
In the eighth chapter of the study, data on the volumes of DRI consumption in the world and in individual countries in 2007-2020 are presented, the main drivers influencing the demand for this type of product are identified, and some of the largest consumers of DRI are identified.
The ninth chapter of the study shows the role and place of DRI in the structure of consumption of iron-containing raw materials in steelmaking.
The tenth chapter of the study analyzes the barriers to entry into the DRL market and recommendations for a new market participant.
The appendices to the report contain contact details of some participants in the DRI market and metallurgical enterprises in the CIS who have experience in using metallized raw materials in steel production.
Target audience of the study:
- DRI market participants - producers and consumers;
- potential investors.
The proposed study claims to be a reference guide for marketing services and specialists making management decisions working in this market.
